Drilling is a cutting process that uses a drill bit to cut a hole of circular cross-section in solid materials. The drill bit is usually a rotary cutting tool, often maisondesvautours.com bit is pressed against the work-piece and rotated at rates from hundreds to thousands of revolutions per maisondesvautours.com forces the cutting edge against the work-piece, cutting off chips (swarf) from the hole as it is. This work was initiated as part of the National Advanced Drilling and Excavation Technologies (NADET) Program. It is being performed through joint finding from the Department of Energy Geothermal Division and the Natural Gas Technology Branch, Morgantown Energy Technology Center. Interest in advanced drilling systems is high. ISP Quarterly Summary Reports. All Quarterly Summary Reports are Year to Date. Note: Quarterly Summary Reports are now in PDF files. Drilling technology advanced when the spring pole harnessed the resiliency of a bent tree to assist in pummeling a hole into the ground to find water. Ancient histories record the technique, which is still used in some corners of the world. While repeatedly kicking down a stirrup was primitive and slow, the spring pole’s rope and chisel were.

Logging while drilling (LWD or Measurement while drilling (MWD), the terms are used interchangeably) is a general term to describe systems and techniques for gathering down-hole data while drilling without the requirement to remove drill pipe from the well.

LWD offers similar functionality as wireline logging with differences in data quality, resolution, and/or coverage.
